Archway Food Justice Program to Host All-Candidates Meeting Focused on Food Security
The Archway Food Justice Program will host an all-candidates meeting ahead of the upcoming Abbotsford municipal election on Monday, October 5th, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium.
The event will provide residents with an opportunity to hear directly from City Council candidates about their priorities for food security and their vision for the future of Abbotsford’s food system.
Questions and discussion topics will be guided by the six core values of the Abbotsford Food Charter, helping to ensure a meaningful conversation about building a healthy, equitable, and sustainable food future for the community.
Moderated by Archway CEO, Rod Santiago, the discussion will focus on the following Food Charter values:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Social Equity
- Agriculture and Sustainability
- Education
- Culture
- Community Economic Development
Community participation is a key part of the event. Archway is inviting residents to submit questions for candidates, helping to ensure the discussion reflects local priorities and concerns related to food security, food access, and the long-term sustainability of Abbotsford’s food system. Questions submitted may be combined with similar submissions to ensure a broad range of community perspectives are reflected in the discussion.
“Food security affects everyone in our community, and municipal decisions play an important role in shaping access to nutritious food, local agriculture, and community wellbeing,” said Vicki Lin, Food Justice Supervisor.
“This event is an opportunity for residents to hear directly from candidates and help shape an important conversation about the future of Abbotsford’s food system. We encourage community members to submit questions and help shape a meaningful discussion on issues that matter most to them.”
