Volunteers Needed for Taste Around the World: Cultural Food Sharing Event on June 27th
The Archway Food Justice program is currently seeking volunteers, event tents, and sponsors for Taste Around the World, a free culturally diverse food sharing event in Abbotsford on June 27th.
The gathering aims to celebrate the cultural diversity within Abbotsford and connect community members as they share their cultural recipes and stories with attendees.
“Our goal is to encourage local cultural awareness and appreciation, provide a platform for cultural exchange, highlight the importance of access to culturally preferable foods, and showcase cultural culinary diversity within our community,” said Vicki Lin, Supervisor of the Archway Food Justice program.
In 2024, this event saw more than 300 community members come together to sample a variety of foods from different cultures.
Once again, volunteer cooks will lead small groups in cooking their favorite cultural recipes and then share how the cultural dishes reflect their respective homelands and cultures at the event. The event will have up to 400 attendees who will get to taste a sample of foods from around the world.
“This is a great opportunity for individuals to nurture meaningful connections around food and represent diverse voices in our community. Through this event, we hope to also bring to light the different challenges newcomers face around food and highlight the importance of an inclusive and food secure community,” said Lin.
Event organizers are looking for volunteers, particularly with food safe certificates, event tents and sponsors. Those interested in supporting can reach out to foodjustice@archway.ca.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, June 27th, outside Clearbrook Library from 2:30pm-5:00pm. Tickets are available at FoodJustice.ca/tickets.
Volunteers and community partners are encouraged to get involved early, as space is limited.
