Connecting Family Through Satellites

The question often gets asked: how does someone end up at the Archway Food Bank? Well, it’s not necessarily a straight forward answer. One thing we know for sure, is that everyone deserves access to food, and the ability to feed their family. Our work begins with trying to reduce the barriers that might get in the way.

 

Before reading any further, I want you to answer this question: when you were in your greatest time of need, who was the first person you called?

 

Did you answer it? If you’re like the many of us, it was probably a family or friend that came to mind. For many people, however, they don’t have that network to count on. That’s why our job is so important. For 3,000 people each month, we can be the family.

 

We wanted you, our extended family, to meet our service partners so that you could know more about the people you are reaching by partnering with the Archway Food Bank. Over the next little while, we want to tell you about the 10 amazing Food Bank satellite locations that are distributing more than 270 hampers every month.

 

 

 

We went out and interviewed 6 of the 10 satellites. Wow, if you ever need a ‘pick-me-up’, I recommend talking to some people about how they are helping other people or just read the Satellite Blog posts. We were pleasantly surprised by the results. Across the board, each location has said that the partnership has had a positive impact on their existing programming. 

 

The outcomes range from one hundred rides to the food bank saved every month, to feeding people on the street who would have otherwise gone without. They’ve also encouraged participants to try new healthy recipes, experiment with food delivery, and deepen relationships.

 

Each satellite is so unique that we thought that we would give a dedicated blog post for each location. Stay tuned for more information about our extended family—the satellites.
